Welcome. Now that I know more about Rutherford, the drinking and the arrogant personality, the ego that forced people to call him Judge when he just sat in 4 times for someone and had NO qualifications, I wonder if he was mocking his believers. When he said Religion is a snare and a racket I think he did mean JW's too - it was an IN joke.

"I hate their gullibility and stupidity. I hate their blindness. I hate their sanctimonious cruelty. I hate their smirking superiority."
That was ME once. Now I am free of the JW's and my personality has greatly improved, so my friends and family say, so I can't hate JW's, it is the religion that I hate. -

Has there been any other decade with as many JW changes as this one?
by truthseeker inwith the housing bubble bursting in the us and other countries, the credit crunch and massive levels of debt, some economists are saying that our time is similar to 1929 and the great depression of the 30s.. in wt land, never have there been so many changes in this decade, the 21st century, since the 1910s when russell died and rutherford changed everything within the current religion.. where things seem to carry for years with no change, suddenly there's something new almost every month.
this year for example has seen the move to one awake magazine a month, next year there will be a public wt and a private study wt edition.
the 1935 cutoff date has been removed and the generation teaching updated again.

There have been a few operational changes announced. But they are not that amazing really. Changes to the Mags and shortening of the Public Talks. There have been changes like this many times before. As for doctrinal changes, removing 1935 as the cutoff point for 144000 and a tweaking of the 'generation' interpretations are not that dramatic either. In years gone by, every convention had new thoughts and people looked forward to the new releases. That ended a long time ago - now nobody even bothers to read the one rehashed publication they put out each year. So I have to say, as someone who associated with, and now watch from afar, JW's since the 1960's that the past decade is not that special.

"Are you obligated to forgive someone......if they DO NOT ASK for forgiveness......if they show NO REMORSE for the transgression"
Lots of good answers so far. I always wondered about this when I was a JW, because they preach God does not forgive unrepentant ones, and this seems to be backed up many places in the Bible.
2 Peter 3:9: The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
It is different to the words of Christ quoted by others. It is just one of the many contradictions of thought in the Bible. -

Italian JWs growing up with the belt! Can you relate?
by Frank.L indid anyone have the same "experiences" growing up as some of us italians/europeans did?...of course our culture plays a part of who we have become in our later years and how we treat our children but pointedly im wondering if anyone raised as a jehovahs witness regularly was hit, smacked, beaten, smashed, in inventive ways that begged u to laugh .....well what i mean is that the intresting thing that stands out is that growing up in this kind of enviornment made you laugh your ass off whenever we discussed these things privately as if they were normal.
and they were so not normal.
and did anyone go through the same normal "discipline".?

I'm English and I was beaten all the time. I have had a sweeping brush pole broken over my back and my father used his leather belt at almost every 'family bible study'. One time my mother swung a cricket bat at my legs. I sidestepped and she got the full force of the swing right back at her. That was funny! Though I payed for it later. I don't know so much about beatings, but in Wales it is still commonplace to see a mother or father hitting their children at the meetings, even though it is not socially acceptable in public places anymore.

I totally agree with you. It is not God's fault that these terrible things happen. Likewise it is nothing to do with God when something good happens. One can't have it both ways, for if God had saved the one child then that means he could have, but did not, save the others.
That is my point. Prayers are not answered, we are all on our own and what befalls us is not his doing, be it good or bad. -

"I think a lot of the time He is telling us to use our own initiative, that we can answer our own needs "
Great, I'll tell that to the parents of the 20,000 children who die every day in Asia. There is a story in the Philippines, it goes like this: A mother and 8 children are on board a ferry that sinks. The mother makes it to shore with one of the children. As soon as she gets to the beach she thanks God for sparing one of her children. That's what religion does - takes away any responsibility from God unless a good thing happens, then he is given the credit!
As for me, I say thank him also for the 7 children who he let drown, or don't thank him for any of it, he was busy on the toilet, to borrow the comment of an ancient prophet. -

I have been there. There are areas specially designed for 'fellowship' - so what is the reason people are going to their cars? I could guess, but I wondered what the actual reason was. As for mentioning credit cards 3 times - they beg for cash at conventions all the time. This always annoyed me, because they also get the congregations to send in a check beforehand. They nealy ALWAYS have a surplus from previous conventions but never use it. Also, the balance mentioned at one convention will always drop by the next - that's because they send it to Bethel rather that leave it available locally. Finally, those baptized in the UK- are they ofteb still from outside, or children?

letter from my MOM(response to COC)
by purplesofa inpurplesofa, .
thanks for sharing this book with me.
although i'm sure this book is accurate and these things have happened within the governing body, it did happen a long time ago and even the "annoited" are imperfect men.. after alot of thought and prayer i chose to stay a witness- an active witness to my ability which is now limited.

Don't let it get you down. Continue to show love and don't get bitter in any way. Frankly, COC only works if the reader is ready for it. Rejection of the WT crap can only come from within. Stay kindly, friendly, and wait patiently for the day someone or something triggers the wakeup call. That's why the WT is so evil - they condition believers to reject everything negative. I hate the Org. so much, but realise the members are not to blame. They just need love and one day realization will come.

IMPORTANT: JWS and the CHARITIES COMMISSION
by Dansk indear all (especially those in the uk),.
following on from danny's excellent post here: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/16/128626/1.ashx i have just sent an e-mail to the charities commission.
some time ago i wrote to you about the dangers of jehovah's witnesses and how they don't deserve charity status because far from helping mankind they are a real danger to it.

There is no harm in trying, if you feel that strongly about it. However, you are going down a cul-de-sac. In time you will discover that. In the UK, a religion qualifies for charity status. The WT can easily show that they are devoted to the spiritual welfare of the community due to their door-to-door activity. Arguments about whether ANYTHING they say is actually good for you spiritually is quite another thing - the Charity Commission will not get involved in doctrinal discussions. All the WT has to show is that they think so, and that they act on it. Comparing the WT to Scientology is a non-starter. The UK government is concerned that they are not even a religion, but a business. The JW's run their religion in many ways like a business too, but nobody disputes that it is a religion.
I want to make it clear that I wish you would succeed. Anything to hurt the WT is good with me. But it's important to focus on something that might work - and as I said before, in the UK, you have no chance whatsoever with this. In time you will discover it for yourself.
